Tax Credits for Energy-Efficient Natural Gas Equipment

Did you know you can save money with tax credits for energy-efficient natural gas equipment? Tax credits are available for both the installation and purchase of natural gas-powered furnaces and tankless water heaters. Energy efficient natural gas equipment helps you use less energy and save money now and in the years ahead.
The tax credits are offered through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and are available for your primary residence. In additions to saving energy and money, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping the environment by choosing products that use efficient, clean-burning natural gas.
The tax credit is equal to 30% of the installed cost of a qualifying product. You can receive a maximum of $1,500 in tax credits. If your credit for a single purchase is less than $1,500 you can combine several qualifying purchases. All purchases must be completed by December 31, 2010.

2009 Stimulus Package

SAN ANTONIO (Associated Press) – The 2009 stimulus package includes a $300 million rebate program for states to distribute to buyers of energy-efficient appliances and other products that carry the “Energy Star” label.

Energy-conscious consumers can receive between $50 and $200 cash back on their purchase of items like freezers, refrigerators, furnaces and central air conditioners.

Within the next week, participating states will receive 10 percent of their funding allotments, which is determined by state population. The Department of Energy estimates that the full $300 million will be awarded by the end of November, with consumers beginning to see the programs in stores by the end of 2009 or early 2010.

13 SEER Federal Regulations

What is 13 SEER?  SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is an energy efficiency rating that is applied to all heat pump and central air conditioning equipment or components.  As of January 23, 2006, in an effort to increase America’s energy efficiency, the U.S. Department of Energy enforced a new regulation that required all newly-manufactured heat pump and central air conditioning equipment or component ratings to be increased from 10 SEER to 13 Seer.  This resulted in a phase-out of less efficient machines and components.  When the components rated less than 13 SEER are depleted, you could face high, unexpected repair costs or replacement of your entire system.  An American Home Shield Warranty includes coverage that addresses the 13 SEER capability issues if you have not already addressed them.
