Making “Green” Choices in Your Home NEW

Many builders are moving to Green Choices.  Green Choices that builders make can save you big money on your utility bills.  Whatever you motivation for making green choices, it makes all of us and our kids healthier and more sustainable for the future.  Below are just a few tips that will make you a little more “Green.”

  1. Put a brick or full 2-liter bottle in your toilet tank to save water. Saving that volume space of water each time you flush saves you money.
  2. Turn down the temperature on your hot-water heater by at least 2 degrees and wrap your unit with insulation.
  3. Replace burned out light bulbs with new CFLs or LEDs.

‘Green’ Trend on the Grow

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Realtor Magazine-Daily) – Nearly one-third of new construction projects in the United States qualify as “green,” up from 2 percent in 2005, according to McGraw-Hill Construction.
The green category is obtained by becoming LEED-certified.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the building rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998 to encourage environmental awareness. Becoming certified can add almost 4.7 percent to the cost of a project, according to studies by the University of Michigan.
