HOUSTON (Houston Business Journal) – LEED Gold certification has been awarded to Discovery Green, the first downtown new construction project to receive the designation.
The project, across from George R. Brown Convention Center, consists of a lake, playground, amphitheater, dog runs, public art works, a Houston Public Library Express office, gardens and two restaurants on 12 acres.
The recreation space received the certification for removing surface-level asphalt parking spaces; generating 8 percent of the park’s total energy via 256 solar roof-top panels as well as by using only renewable energy for electrical power; using high-efficiency HVAC equipment; and preserving live oak trees.
