GALVESTON (Houston Chronicle) – The city council Friday approved a plan to rebuild public housing torn down after Hurricane Ike.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Texas General Land Office had given the city until Friday to approve the plan or risk losing $580 million in funding. The city would also have had to repay federal funds already spent.
The $580 million would go toward repairing streets and other infrastructure.
