AUSTIN (Dallas Business Journal) – The first disclosure rules for hydraulic fracturing have been signed into law
by Governor Rick Perry.
Hydraulic fracturing, also known as “fracking,” is the process of
using chemicals to break up rock so oil can be captured. This process is
used in the Barnett Shale region in North Texas.
Under the new law, companies that use fracking must disclose their chemical
recipes.
Environmentalists say this process can contaminate ground water used
for public water consumption.
Texas will become the first state to implement this type of law when it goes
into effect in July of 2012.
