The Texas A&M University System’s Real Estate Center in College Station published an article by Dr. Jerrold Stern called “Getting the Most Out of Moving.”  The article explains the criteria needed for taking tax deductions when moving.  Deductions for moving expenses can ease the tax burden, but taxpayers must meet certain criteria to be eligible.  It is best to seek advice from a tax accountant when you need help preparing tax returns, but this article explains the “tests” one must pass to receive the tax benefits of moving.  The rules and calculations can be complicated, but the benefits of deducting moving expenses can be very beneficial.  I highly recommend the article if you are moving or have moved within the last year.
