CARROLLTON (ALNsystems.com) – The number of apartments rented statewide dropped 2.9 percent between July 2008 and July 2009, according to the latest figures from ALN. Meanwhile, rents fell by an average of 0.2 percent.
Here’s how some cities fared for the year ending July 2009:
Austin
Occupancy decreased from 90.4 percent in July 2008 to 87.6 percent in July 2009. Average monthly rent dropped 2.2 percent, going from $832 to $814.
Dallas
Occupancy decreased from 90.7 percent to 87.6 percent. Rent decreased 1.4 percent, going from $780 to $770.
Fort Worth
Occupancy dropped from 89 percent to 87 percent. Rent decreased 0.6 percent, going from $679 to $675.
Houston
Occupancy decreased from 89.1 percent to 86.5 percent. Rent increased by 2.6 percent, going from $732 to $750.
San Antonio
Occupancy decreased from 89.4 percent to 87.5 percent. Rent increased 0.5 percent, going from $688 to $691.
Lubbock
Occupancy was at 88.9 percent last month, while average rent was $603.
Amarillo
Occupancy dropped from 92.4 percent to 88.4 percent, while average rent increased 1.3 percent from $581 to $589.
Abilene
Occupancy dropped from 98.1 percent to 92.4 percent, while average rent decreased 9 percent, going from $638 to $580.
Corpus Christi
Occupancy decreased from 93.1 percent to 89.1 percent. Rent dropped 1.2 percent from $701 to $692.
