Attention, Shoppers: Galleria Expansion Planned
HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) – Start warming up those credit cards. According to the Houston Chronicle, Simon Property Group is planning a major expansion at the 2.2 million-sf Galleria.

Plans include tearing down the existing Galleria III and moving Saks to a two-level space with 198,000 sf. Currently, the department store occupies 180,000 sf.

Meanwhile, Saks’ old space would be renovated to accommodate 35 smaller stores.

The renovation would also allow Macy’s to consolidate its two Galleria locations into the store facing West Alabama and Hidalgo.

The changes could expand the Galleria’s residential as well as retail offerings. David Contis, president of Simon Malls, said a 300-unit residential high-rise with an outdoor pool is envisioned for the corner of West Alabama and Sage.
