HOUSTON (Houston Business Journal) – Fort Bend County ranked fifth, up from sixth last year, as one of the fastest growing U.S. counties in terms of job growth by Money Magazine.
The area, including parts of Houston, Missouri City and Sugar Land, saw a 55.7 percent job increase from 2000 to 2009.
Major employers included public school districts, which accounted for more than 14,000 jobs, energy companies such as Fluor Corp. and Schlumberger, and micro-electronics giant Texas Instruments.
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital also contributed to the growing number of employment opportunities in the healthcare sector.
